Hekoayu (Sweetfish) - Hekoayu (English spelling) Aeoliscus strigatus

Hekoayu (Sweetfish) - Hekoayu (English spelling) Aeoliscus strigatus
A marine fish of the family Hemiptera in the order Syngnathidae (illustration). It is commonly called shrimp fish in English because it likes to eat small shrimp. Its body is long and slender, extremely laterally compressed, and its sides are covered with a hard deck like a turtle's. The deck is transparent and arranged in three vertical rows, and the ventral midline has a sharp edge along its entire length. For this reason, it is called a razor fish in Australia. Its snout is tubular, and its mouth at the tip has no teeth. Its fins are arranged in a unique way, with the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins all gathered on the ventral side of the tail.
