German airline. Airline code: LH. Headquarters: Cologne. Lufthansa's color scheme is light brown, used on aircraft cabins. International flights cover 120 major cities in Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Has been flying to Japan since 1961. Founded as Deutsche Luftrederei in 1919, it became Deutsche Lufthansa in 1926. After World War II, as a defeated nation, civil aviation was banned, just like in Japan, but it was rebuilt in 1953 with funding from the federal government, the Japanese national railway, and others, and began operations in 1955.
