…A name of Eastern Turkish origin referring to the Hui people of northwestern China. The original Eastern Turkish form is Tunghan. The most popular theory is that it is a derivative of the verb tönmäk (to turn, to move), and it is said to mean "one who has returned to the correct faith" or to be a translation of the Chinese word "hui hui" ("round").
