…Eventually, in the Ming dynasty, these were compiled into written form by writers, and thus the representative Chinese long reading works (called chapter novels) were born, such as the 120-chapter Romance of the Three Kingdoms (by Luo Guanzhong), the 120-chapter Water Margin (by Shi Nai'an and Luo Guanzhong), and the 100-chapter Journey to the West (by Wu Cheng'en). Collections of short stories from the Goulan include the Jingbon Popular Novel, the Qingpingshan Tang Huabon, the Yusang Qian Pillow Collection, and the Four Novels of Xionglongfeng. Eventually, these were compiled into written form, and became the Ming dynasty Sanyan Ni Bao and Xin Gu Xian, which remain to this day. From the Ming to the Qing dynasties, a blind pipa performer named Tao Zhen appeared, especially in Jiangnan, and passed down the stories of Meng Jiangnu and the White Snake Legend. …
