A town in Shimohei County in eastern Iwate Prefecture. The Funakoshi Peninsula protrudes into the area, and the Yamada Line passes through Yamada Bay, with the main settlements of Yamada and Funakoshi at the back of the bay. In addition to salmon fishing, oyster and scallop farming is also popular. The town is part of the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park, and includes Oshima Island, Koyadori Beach, and Mt. Karo. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 262.81 km2 . 18,617 people (2010).

A former town in Katori County, northeastern Chiba Prefecture. Located on the Shimousa Plateau. The town is centered on agriculture, with rice, vegetable cultivation, and livestock farming thriving. Flower cultivation such as carnations is also practiced. The town is home to the Fuma Great Camphor Tree, a natural monument. In March 2006, the town merged with Sawara City, Katori County's Omigawa Town, and Kurimoto Town to become Katori City. Area: 51.54 km2 . Population: 11,457 (2003).

Yamada [town] [Yamada]

A former town in Kitamorokata County, southern Miyazaki Prefecture. Located in the northwest of the Miyakonojo Basin, it is surrounded by vast forests and plains. Agriculture is thriving here, with rice and livestock farming being the major industries, and tobacco and taro are also produced. The Kitto Line runs through the town. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Miyakonojo City along with Takasaki Town, Takajo Town, and Yamanokuchi Town in Kitamorokata County. Area: 62.20 km2 . Population: 8,722 (2003).

千葉県北東部,香取郡の旧町。下総(しもうさ)台地上に位置する。農業を中心とし,米,野菜栽培,畜産などが盛ん。カーネーションなどの花卉(かき)栽培も行われている。府馬の大クス(天然記念物)がある。2006年3月,佐原市,香取郡小見川町,栗源町と合併し市制,香取市となる。51.54km2。1万1457人(2003)。

宮崎県南部,北諸県(きたもろかた)郡の旧町。都城(みやこのじょう)盆地の北西部にあたり,山林原野が広い。農業が盛んで,米作のほか,畜産が盛んで,タバコ,サトイモなども産する。吉都(きっと)線が通じる。2006年1月北諸県郡高崎町,高城町,山之口町と都城市へ編入。62.20km2。8722人(2003)。
