A town in Shimohei County in eastern Iwate Prefecture. The Funakoshi Peninsula protrudes into the area, and the Yamada Line passes through Yamada Bay, with the main settlements of Yamada and Funakoshi at the back of the bay. In addition to salmon fishing, oyster and scallop farming is also popular. The town is part of the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park, and includes Oshima Island, Koyadori Beach, and Mt. Karo.
