A large river in southern Africa. It originates near Pretoria (Tshwane) in South Africa, flows along the border with Botswana and Zimbabwe in a large semicircle, and empties into the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. It is 1,800 km long. It has many rapids and is of little use as a waterway. Vasco da Gama reached the river's mouth in 1497. → Related article Mozambique (country) Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
