Also called lymph. The fluid that flows through lymphatic vessels. It is tissue fluid that seeps into the tissues from the capillaries of vertebrates and flows into lymphatic capillaries. It is an almost colorless and transparent serous fluid, and its formed elements are mainly lymphocytes. It is originally derived from plasma, and its composition is similar, but its protein concentration is generally low. The composition varies depending on the part, and lymph flowing through the intestinal lymphatic trunk in particular is rich in fat and cloudy, and is called chyle. In addition, tissue fluid that fills cavities such as the anterior chamber of the eye and the labyrinth of the inner ear is also lymph in the broad sense.

リンパとも。リンパ管内を流れる液体。脊椎動物の毛細血管から組織内に浸出した組織液が，毛細リンパ管に流れこんだもの。ほとんど無色透明の漿液(しょうえき)性液体で，有形成分は主としてリンパ球。もともと血漿に由来するもので，組成はよく似ているが一般にタンパク質濃度は低い。部位によって組成に変化があり，特に腸リンパ本幹を流れるリンパ液は脂肪に富み白濁し乳糜(にゅうび)と呼ばれる。なお，眼球の前眼房，内耳の迷路などの腔所をみたす組織液も広義のリンパ液である。
