A town in the east of Fukui City, Yoshida District, Fukui Prefecture. The town is in front of Eiheiji Temple, and the Echizen Railway runs through the town from Fukui and Mikuni. There are many visitors to Eiheiji Temple and tourists. There are many forests, and the town is involved in agriculture, forestry, and textile manufacturing. In February 2006, Matsuoka Town and Kamishi Village in Yoshida District were incorporated, and the town hall became the old Matsuoka Town Hall. 94.43 km2 . Population 20,647 (2010). 福井県吉田郡，福井市東方の町。中心は永平寺の門前町で，福井，三国からえちぜん鉄道が通じる。永平寺参拝客や観光客が多い。山林が多く，農林業，繊維工業を行う。2006年２月吉田郡松岡町，上志比村を編入し，町役場を旧松岡町役場とした。94.43km2。２万647人（2010）。
