…During this time, depending on the prosperity and decline of each mine, the shogunate either directly managed the mine or contracted out miners to manage it. The Edo shogunate appointed the Ikuno magistrate in 1600 (Keicho 5) and the Ikuno magistrate in 1716 (Kyoho 1), and had them govern the mines and the surrounding territories (52,500 koku in 1751). Eight guard posts were set up in the silver mine territory, which consisted of seven cho (128 cho) of silver mines, to control access to and from the mines. …

...The area where the Ikuno Silver Mine was located became a direct domain throughout the Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods. Together with the 6,000 koku of land in the neighboring province of Harima, the total domain of about 37,000 koku came under the control of the Ikuno Magistrate (Ikuno Magistrate after 1716) as a village with a silver mine.

The mining town of Ikuno, where the magistrate's office was located, is thought to have had a population of 20,000 at its peak in 1622 (Genwa 8).
