May lily (English spelling)

...To make it bloom around Christmas or New Year, the rootstock is refrigerated in late autumn and then heated to 30°C in a greenhouse. In Europe, this flower bouquet is used to celebrate May Day, hence the English name May lily. The whole plant contains three types of glycosides, convallamarin, convallarin, and convallatoxin, which are toxic, but these compounds are also used medicinally.
