Ikai

...A painter from the Qing Dynasty in China. His given name was Kai, and in Japan he was known by his pen name Fu Jiu. His birth and death years are unknown. He was from Shantang near Wu County in Jiangsu Province, and first came to Nagasaki in 1720 (Kyoho 5) as a horse trader, and is said to have visited Japan several times since. As a side hobby, he often painted landscapes in the style of Southern School literati painting, but his name does not appear in Chinese painting histories and biographies. However, as the first painter to introduce full-scale Southern School painting techniques to Japan, he had an enormous impact on Japanese Nanga painting. [Naruse Fujio]...
