Liaoning Province - Liaoning
A province in northeastern China. Its abbreviated name is Liao. Its capital is Shenyang. It borders the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the Yalu River to the southeast. During the Warring States period, it belonged to the state of Yan. During the Qin dynasty, it belonged to counties such as Liaodong and Liaoxi, and during the Song dynasty, it was under the control of Liao. At the end of the Qing dynasty, it was renamed Fengtian Province, and in 1929 it became Liaoning Province. From the second half of the 19th century, it became a stage for the acquisition of interests by Britain, Russia, Japan, and other countries. It is inhabited by Han, Manchu, Mongolian, Korean, and Sibo (Sibo) peoples. The central part is the Liao River Plain, the eastern part is the Liaodong Hills centered on the Qianshan Mountains, the southern part is the Liaodong Peninsula stretching between the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, and the western part is the Liaoxi Hills through which the Daling River and Xiaoling River flow. Of the three northeastern provinces, Shenyang enjoys relatively favorable climate conditions and produces rice, soybeans, cotton, peanuts, and silkworms. It accounts for three-quarters of China's total apple exports and is the second largest shrimp catch in the country. It is one of China's important industrial regions, producing iron, coal, oil, and natural gas, and is home to four major steel companies in Anshan, Benxi, Dalian, and Fushun. It has the most developed railway network in China, ranking first in the country in terms of railway freight traffic, and there is also a highway between Shenyang and Dalian. The Shenyang Imperial Palace, an early Qing dynasty palace located in the center of the old town of Shenyang, is the second best-preserved ancient building complex after the Forbidden Palace in Beijing.
