Following "Dekigokoro" (1933), Takeshi Sakamoto plays the lead character named Kihachi, and this film, along with the following "Tokyo Inn" (1935), is known as a "Kihachi film." Since Gosho Heinosuke's "Madame and Wife" in 1931, directors have been aiming for talkies one after another, and Shochiku Kamata Studio was the studio that produced the most talkies at the time, but Ozu stubbornly stuck to completely silent films until this film in 1934. ...
