A mental symptom in which a person recounts in great detail a story about something they did not experience, as if it were true. There is no intention to deceive the other person. It occurs through a different mechanism than hallucinations, delusions, lies, etc. It is often seen in alcohol psychosis and geriatric mental disorders.
