Disconnection syndrome

Japanese: 離断症候群 - りだんしょうこうぐん

Disorders of higher mental functions caused by the destruction of commissural and association fibers. The human cerebrum is made up of two hemispheres, the left and right, and the nerve fibers that connect the left and right cerebral hemispheres are called commissural fibers. They form commissural fiber nerve bundles, such as the corpus callosum and anterior commissure, between the hemispheres. Disorders of higher mental functions caused by the destruction of these commissural fibers are called interhemispheric disconnection syndromes, and include naming disorders in the left visual field, alexia, agraphia of the left hand, and apraxia. The nerve fibers that connect the cerebral cortex in either the left or right cerebral hemisphere are called association fibers.

交連繊維や連合繊維の破壊によって生ずる高次の精神機能の障害。ヒトの大脳は左右二つの大脳半球から成り立っており，左右の大脳半球間を連絡する神経繊維は交連繊維と呼ばれる。それは，脳梁，前交連などの交連繊維神経束を半球間で形成している。この交連繊維の破壊で生ずる高次精神機能障害は半球間離断症候群と呼ばれ，左視野の呼称障害，失読，左手の失書，失行などがそれに属する。　左右の大脳半球のいずれか一方の大脳半球内の大脳皮質間を連絡する神経繊維は連合繊維と呼ばれる。
