1901‐43 Korean poet. His pen name was Sanghwa. He was born in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province. In 1921, he became a member of the White Cho group and wrote sentimental, romantic poems such as To My Bedroom and Autumn Scenery. He studied French at the Athénée Français in Tokyo for a time, but returned to Korea after the Great Kanto Earthquake. After that, he wrote poems that sang of the sorrows of the people under colonial rule and contained hidden national resistance. In 1925, he joined the Korean Proletarian Arts League. His poem Will Spring Come to the Stolen Fields?, published in Kaibyaku in 1926, is regarded as a noble poem of resistance. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
