Hairstyles for sumo wrestlers. In the sumo ring, wrestlers in the juryo and above wear a large o-ichou topknot, while those in the makushita and below wear a topknot. In the Edo period, topknots were replaced by yaro-mage, yagura-otoshi, and full-haired otoko-mage. The current sumo topknot was established in the Meiji period and is worn for tradition and to prevent injury.
