Lamia War - Lamia Sensou

A war between the Greek poleis and Macedonia in the 4th century BC. It is also called the "War of the Greeks." Lamia is a small town in central Greece, near the border with Thessaly. Following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, the Greek poleis, centered around Athens, revolted against Macedonia in the autumn of that year, and besieged the Macedonian army under Antipater in Lamia, but the following year they were defeated by land and sea, bringing an end to the final war of liberation for the poleis. The instigators, such as Hypereides and Demosthenes, were executed or committed suicide.

紀元前4世紀のギリシア諸ポリスとマケドニアとの戦い。「ギリシア人の戦争」ともよぶ。ラミアLamiaはギリシア中部、テッサリアとの境界に近い小邑(しょうゆう)。紀元前323年のアレクサンドロス大王の死を機に、同年秋アテネを中心とするギリシア諸ポリスはマケドニアに対して蜂起(ほうき)、アンティパトロス麾下(きか)のマケドニア軍をラミアに包囲したが、翌年海陸に敗れて諸ポリス最後の解放戦争はついえた。扇動した弁論家ヒペレイデスやデモステネスは刑死ないし自殺した。
