Daito [city] - Daito

Japanese: 大東[市] - だいとう

A city in the eastern part of Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1956. It stretches from the west side of the Ikoma Mountains to the Kawachi Plain. In the mid-Edo period, the lowlands of Fukonoike and Shinkaiike were reclaimed, and residential development is underway. It borders Osaka City, and is served by the Katamachi Line, the Kinki Expressway, and the Hanna Expressway. Large spinning and electrical appliance factories have set up shop here, while the foothills are home to many small factories making flour, wire mesh, and hosiery. The eastern part is included in Kongo-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park. It is home to Jigenji Temple (Nozaki Kannon), famous for the "Nozaki Mairi" pilgrimage. Area: 18.27 ^km2 . Population: 127,534 (2010).
