A village in Sanbu District, in the central eastern part of Chiba Prefecture. Population 4,648 (1995). Located almost in the center of the Kujukuri Coast. In the past, the village was half farming, half fishing, but coastal fishing declined in the late 1950s, and agriculture became the main industry. Currently, vegetable production is the main industry. A 170-hectare beach park has been built, and the village attracts many swimmers in the summer. 千葉県中東部,山武郡の村。人口4648(1995)。九十九里浜のほぼ中央にある。かつては半農半漁の村であったが,1950年代後半ころから沿岸漁業は衰退し,農業が産業の中心となった。現在は野菜の生産が中心である。170haの海浜公園がつくられ,夏季の海水浴客も多い。【千葉 立也】
