Fire (■1) Dokan - Kayokan

...A man from Yeongju. He noticed the effectiveness of gunpowder as a means of repelling the Japanese pirates, whose attacks were becoming increasingly severe at the time, and learned how to make it from a Chinese merchant. He persuaded the government to establish the Fire Office, and as its director, he manufactured gunpowder and firearms and built warships equipped with firearms. In 1380, when the Japanese pirates attacked Jinpo at the mouth of the Geum River, he used these weapons to deal a major blow, and was appointed as a governor of the city for his achievements.
