1855‐1937
Russian-born ethnologist. In Russian, he is called Iokhel'son. Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, he joined the Narodnik People's Will movement and was exiled to the Kolyma region of Yakutia in 1888. In 1894-95, he participated in an academic survey of the northern peoples there, and in particular, he studied the relationship between the Yukaghir language and the surrounding languages. In 1901-02, he participated in a survey of the peoples of the North Pacific region by the American Museum of Natural History.

ロシア生れの民族学者。ロシア語ではヨヘリソンVladimir Il’ich Iokhel’son。リトアニアのビルニュスに生まれ，ナロードニキの〈人民の意志派〉の運動に加わって，1888年ヤクーチアのコリマ地方に流刑となる。94‐95年同地で北方民族の学術調査に加わり，とくにユカギール語と周辺の諸言語との関係について研究を深めた。1901‐02年アメリカ自然史博物館の北太平洋地域諸民族の調査に参加。
