Japanese: タタキ

(1) A type of shamisen playing technique. The plectrum is struck hard, as if striking the skin of the instrument. (2) A section of Gidayu-bushi. It incorporates the Kadozuke-gei (gateway entertainment) technique of bowl beating (→ Kuya Nembutsu). It is used in scenes of separation and has a high, mournful melody. Related tunes include naka-tataki, shimo-tataki, haru-tataki, and naka-tataki-kakari. (3) A method used in tayu training by indicating the intervals, beats, and number of strokes with fan beats or hands without the shamisen.

(1) 三味線の奏法の一種。撥 (ばち) を胴皮に当るまで強く，たたくように弾くこと。 (2) 義太夫節の節章の一つ。門付芸 (かどづけげい) である鉢たたき (→空也念仏 ) を取入れたもの。別離の場面などに用いられ，高く哀調を帯びた旋律である。関連する曲節に，中タタキ，下タタキ，ハルタタキ，中タタキカカリなどがある。 (3) 太夫の稽古で，三味線を伴わず扇拍子や手で間や拍子・手数を指示して行う方法。
