A former town in Shida County, central Miyagi Prefecture. The main settlement developed as a river port on the Naruse River and was also a key location on the Oshu Kaido road. In addition to producing a lot of rice, the town also cultivates sunflowers for food. The hills in the south once produced lignite, but the mines are now closed. In March 2006, Osaki merged with Furukawa City, Matsuyama Town and Kashimadai Town in Shida County, Iwadeyama Town and Naruko Town in Tamatsukuri County, and Tajiri Town in Toda County to become a city. 44.63 km2 . 8,584 people (2003). 宮城県中部,志田郡の旧町。主集落は鳴瀬川の河港として発達,奥州街道の要地でもあった。米を多産するほか,食用ヒマワリの栽培も行う。南部の丘陵地では亜炭を産したが,現在は閉山。2006年3月,古川市,志田郡松山町,鹿島台町,玉造郡岩出山町,鳴子町,遠田郡田尻町と合併し市制,大崎市となる。44.63km2。8584人(2003)。
