Hot dipping - yoyuu plating (English name)

A method in which an item is immersed in molten metal for a certain period of time, then pulled out, and the molten metal that has adhered to the surface of the item is solidified to obtain a metal coating layer. Hot-dip galvanizing, hot-dip aluminum plating, hot-dip tin plating, hot-dip lead plating, etc. are used to protect steel from corrosion. Hot-dip galvanized steel sheets are called galvanized iron sheets, hot-dip tin plated steel sheets are called tinplate sheets, and lead-tin alloy plated steel sheets containing 15-20% tin are called tern plates. Hot-dip plating produces a thick plating layer that maintains its corrosion protection effect for a long period of time, but hot-dip plated steel sheets generally have poor workability because a brittle alloy layer is often formed between the plating layer and the base metal.

溶融した金属中に品物を一定時間浸漬(しんし)したのち引き上げ、付着した溶融金属を品物表面で凝固させて金属被覆層を得る方法。鉄鋼の防食を目的として溶融亜鉛めっき、溶融アルミニウムめっき、溶融スズめっき、溶融鉛めっきなどが行われている。溶融亜鉛めっき鋼板はトタン板、溶融スズめっき鋼板はブリキ板、そして15～20％スズを含む鉛‐スズ合金めっき鋼板はターンプレートtern plateとよばれている。溶融めっき法により厚いめっき層が得られるので、長期間防食効果を保てるが、めっき層と下地金属との間にもろい合金層が形成されることが多いので、溶融めっき鋼板の加工性は一般によくない。
