Chemical formula: KI. Commonly known as potassium iodide or potassium iodide. Found naturally in seawater and brine. Colorless cubic crystal. Sodium chloride structure, lattice constant: 7.0655 Å. Specific gravity: 3.13. Melting point: 680°C, boiling point: 1330°C. The interatomic distance of the ion pair K ⁺ -I ^- in the gas form is 3.0478 Å. Solubility in 100 g of water: 127.5 g (0°C), 208 g (100°C). Soluble in ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, acetone, and glycerin, but sparingly soluble in ether.
