Wooden tile roofing - Kigawara-buki

Japanese: 木瓦ぶき - きがわらぶき

... refers to roofing with wooden planks. In Japanese architecture, depending on the size, shape, and method of the planks, there are various types of roofing, such as kokerabuki, tokusabuki, tochibuki, nagaitabuki, kikawarabuki, and ishiokibuki. Kakibuki is also called kobabuki, and is made by finely laying (about 3cm long) hand-split planks of sawara or cedar with bamboo nails, each about 30cm long and 3mm thick. It is the most luxurious and high-quality plank roofing. Since the Middle Ages, it has been used for temple and shrine buildings, shoin (study rooms), and guest halls, and a typical example is the shoin (study room) at Katsura Imperial Villa.

...the name for the woody parts of woody plants. A living standing tree continues to produce wood on the inside and bark on the outside of each part of the roots, trunk, and branches. This is due to the action of the cambium layer between the bark and the wood, but since wood is produced in much greater volume than bark, wood makes up the majority of the tree, and the tree continues to swell outward and grow both vertically and horizontally. Of this wood, the trunk (including the thick branches) is the main part that is used industrially or in crafts, taking advantage of its characteristics, while the rest is often used as raw material for pulpwood, fuel, etc.
