Humanité - Yumanite (English spelling) l'Humanité

The central organ of the French Communist Party. A morning paper published in Paris. It was first published on April 18, 1904 by Jean Jaurès, a well-known socialist at the time, and later became the organ of the Socialist Party. In 1920, when the Socialist Party and the Communist Party split, it became the central organ of the Communist Party. Just before World War II, the collapse of the Popular Front led to a ban on publication from August 26, 1939, but it immediately began publishing underground and continued to do so until the liberation of Paris in August 1944, cooperating with the Resistance movement. Immediately after World War II, under the national unity government in which the Communist Party joined, circulation increased dramatically, reaching 400,000 in 1946, but then declined. Nevertheless, in the 1980s it maintained a circulation of around 100,000, one of the highest for a communist party newspaper in a capitalist country, but in the 1990s after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it dropped significantly. In 1998, the average circulation was 58,000.

フランス共産党中央機関紙。パリ発行の朝刊紙。1904年4月18日、当時の著名な社会主義者ジャン・ジョレスによって創刊され、その後社会党の機関紙となる。20年社共の分裂により、共産党の中央機関紙となる。第二次世界大戦の直前、人民戦線の崩壊で39年8月26日から発行禁止処分を受けたが、ただちに地下発行を開始、44年8月のパリ解放まで地下発行を続け、レジスタンス運動に協力した。第二次世界大戦直後、共産党も入閣した挙国一致内閣の下で発行部数も飛躍的に伸び、46年には40万部を数えたが、その後低下した。それでも80年代には資本主義国の共産党機関紙としては有数の10万台の発行部数を維持していたが、ソ連崩壊後の90年代には大きく低落した。98年の平均発行部数は5万8000部。
