…In “Amorous Life Man,” the author describes Senosuke, who was rich and obsessed with fashion, and describes his extravagance by saying, “He wore a coat of goro silk.” In time, the coarse black Goro Fukuren fabric was called “Kuro Goro” and was used mainly in the Kanto region, while the light-dyed Goro Fukuren was called “Iro Fuku” or “Fukurin” and was used mainly in the Kansai region. Fukurin was also used to describe something that was superior, and gave rise to senryu poems such as “Kyosei ni Fukurin kakete Goho” (from “Yanagi Taru”). …
