Kabuki kyogen. Written by Kawatake Shinshichi III. Historical piece. 6 acts. Original title: Minori no Akiseishodenki (Biography of Minori no Akiseishodenki). As it is an adaptation of the popular legend of Kato Kiyomasa's poisonous manju (bun), it is commonly known as Poison Manju no Kiyomasa. It premiered in October 1875 at the Shinboriza (formerly Kawarazakiza) in Tokyo. The appearance of Ichikawa Danjūrō IX and Iwai Hanshiro VIII attracted much attention. At the time, the play was set in the world of the Omi Genji clan in the style of Edo Kabuki, with Kato Kiyomasa played by Sato Masakiyo and Yodo-dono played by Uji no Kata, but when Danjūrō performed it again at the Meijiza in March 1894, the title was changed to Kiyomasa Seichūroku (Record of Kiyomasa's Sincerity) and the characters were given their real names.
