Klebs, Theodor Albrecht Edwin
Born: February 6, 1834, Königsberg
Died October 23, 1913. German bacteriologist and pathologist from Bern. Known for his research into bacterial infections. In 1861, he became assistant to R. Virchow at the Institute of Pathology in Berlin, and after serving as professor at the universities of Bern, Würzburg, Prague, and Zurich, he traveled to the United States, where he became professor at Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1896, returning to Japan in 1900. In 1873, he succeeded in inducing tuberculosis in cows by feeding them contaminated milk, and in 1878, he succeeded in infecting monkeys with syphilis. In 1883, he discovered the diphtheria bacillus.

[Died] January 1, 1780. Altenburg German organist and composer. He studied under Bach from 1726 to 1735, and served as organist in Zwickau, Zeitz, and Altenburg. In addition to organ pieces in the style of Bach, he composed flute sonatas and religious pieces.

ドイツの細菌学者,病理学者。細菌感染の研究で知られる。 1861年,ベルリンの病理学研究所で R.ウィルヒョーの助手となり,ベルン,ウュルツブルク,プラハ,チューリヒの各大学教授を経てアメリカに渡り,96年シカゴのラッシュ医科大学教授をつとめ,1900年帰国した。 1873年,汚染したミルクを与えてウシに結核を起させることに成功,78年,サルを梅毒にかからせることに成功した。 83年にはジフテリア菌を発見した。
