The First Jewish War was a war between the Roman Empire and the Jewish people of Palestine. It was divided into the First (66-70) and the Second (132-135). (1) The First Jewish War After Pompey captured Jerusalem in 63 B.C., Judea-Palestine came under indirect Roman rule. Except for the period 40-37 B.C., when Antigonus rebelled against Rome and assumed the title of king, Hyrcanus II (reigned 63-40 B.C.) and Herod the Great (reigned 40-37 B.C.-4 B.C.), puppet kings of Rome, ruled the region under the control of the Romans.
