...Electricity resources are abundant due to a network of hydroelectric power stations on Lake Sevan, the Razdan River, and the Aras River, and a nuclear power plant (1977). The main industries are metal processing, machine tools, building materials, chemicals (synthetic rubber, synthetic resin, plastics, etc.), and food processing (wine, brandy, etc.), and new industrial cities such as Echmiadzin, Kafan, Aboubyan, Razdan, Oktenbergyan, and Alaverdi have also developed, with the urban population reaching 68% of the total population (1989). Armenians are not only found throughout the former Soviet Union, but are also widely scattered around the world.
