Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French (1850-1931), while artists such as Frederic Remington (1861-1909) and Charles Marion Russell (1864-1926) were active, focusing on Western life (Indians, cowboys). It was not until the 20th century that sculpture corresponding to European modernism appeared, with the emergence of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), Gaston Lachaise (1882-1935), and Paul Manship (1885-1966).
