An insect of the Lepidoptera order, Lasiocampidae family. Wing span is about 7cm in males and about 10cm in females. Males have brown wings, while females have light brown wings with a slight yellowish tinge. The forewings have 5-6 serrated transverse lines and a yellowish-white pattern near the base. The antennae are comb-like, but the females have shorter combs. They are found in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and the Korean Peninsula west of the Kanto region. Adults emerge late in autumn and often fly to lights. The larvae are caterpillars that reach a body length of 9cm and are confusingly similar to the bark of the food tree. They feed on the leaves of Fagaceae trees, such as Quercus acutissima, Quercus serrata, Quercus serrata, Quercus serrata, and Quercus serrata.
