Imamiya Ebisu Shrine

Japanese: 今宮戎神社 - いまみやえびすじんじゃ

Located in Ebisu Nishi, Naniwa Ward, Osaka City. It enshrines Amaterasu-za-Sume-Omikami, Kotoshironushi-no-Mikoto, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, and Wakahime-no-Mikoto. It is said to have been founded as a guardian deity of the west by Prince Shotoku when he built Shitennoji Temple in 600 (8th year of the reign of Empress Suiko). It is a former village shrine. Its annual festival is held on January 10th. The Toka Ebisu festival, which began in the Edo period, is particularly famous and takes place from January 9th to 11th. On that day, the shrine is crowded with over one million worshippers who pray for prosperity in commerce and industry and hope to receive lucky bamboo with small treasures (lucky omens) attached to it.

Faith in Ebisu, the god who protects people's livelihoods and brings good fortune, has grown stronger over time, and in the Edo period, the Toka Ebisu festival at Imamiya Ebisu Shrine was crowded with many worshippers. 大阪市浪速(なにわ)区恵美須(えびす)西に鎮座。天照坐皇大御神(あまてらしますすめおおみかみ)、事代主命(ことしろぬしのみこと)、素盞嗚命(すさのおのみこと)、月読命(つきよみのみこと)、稚日女命(わかひめのみこと)を祀(まつ)る。600年（推古天皇8）聖徳太子が四天王寺建立にあたり、西方の守護神として創建されたと伝える。旧郷社。例祭は1月10日。江戸時代より始まった「十日戎(とおかえびす)」はとくに有名で、1月9日より11日まで行われる。当日は商工業繁栄を祈り、小宝（吉兆(きっちょう)）をつけた福笹(ふくざさ)を受けようと、100万以上の参拝者でにぎわう。
