Yano Jinichi - Yano Jinichi

Japanese: 矢野仁一 - やのじんいち
Yano Jinichi - Yano Jinichi

A historian of oriental history, he particularly studied China's diplomatic history and modern history. He was born in Yamagata Prefecture. He graduated from the Department of Western History at the University of Tokyo, and in 1905 (Meiji 38) was invited by the Qing Dynasty Government Department to teach at the Jinshikan, where he provided new education to young people. During this time he wrote articles for the magazine "Yanjin," introducing historical sites in Beijing, and traveled to "Eastern Mongolia" with Kuwahara Jitsuzo and Mishima Kaiun. In 1919 (Taisho 1), he was appointed assistant professor at Kyoto University, and progressed to professorship until retirement. His two main works, "Research on China's Modern Foreign Relations" and "Modern Chinese Diplomatic History," are unparalleled in their mastery of Western and Chinese records and their use. However, his argument that Manchuria, Mongolia, Hui (Xinjiang), and Tibet were not inherent Chinese territory invited controversy both at home and abroad. He wrote more than 30 books, and his last one, "A History of the Chinese People's Revolution" (1966, not for sale), criticized the Cultural Revolution that was taking place at that time as an irrational act.
