ROI - Return on Investment

ROI - Return on Investment
The ratio of how much profit can be generated relative to the amount invested. The higher the ROI, the more efficient the investment and the more profitable it is. The minimum condition for investment is that the ROI is higher than the cost of capital. When raising capital required for investment, the company must pay the provider a commensurate remuneration. The ratio of the amount provided to the cost of capital (%), so the company must achieve a profit rate that exceeds that. ROI is an indicator of how much profit is made from the investment. However, ROI itself is originally measured for each individual investment project, and shareholders and investors cannot know the individual figures. In this sense, financial ratios such as return on total capital used in management analysis do not directly represent the size of ROI, but they can give an idea of the degree of profitability achieved by the company as a whole. The ratio with current profit as the numerator and total capital as the denominator is called current return on total capital, and is an important indicator of the efficiency of capital utilization. During the high-growth period, the ROI of the manufacturing industry fluctuated around 5%, but due to the economic downturn, it has remained at around 2% since fiscal 1992. It subsequently recovered to 3.47% in fiscal 2003 and 4.29% in fiscal 2004. In addition to ROI, there is also something called return on equity (ROE), which indicates the efficiency of obtaining profits that belong to shareholders. In the United States in particular, it is considered an important indicator of the ability of management.
