Back seal - Urafuu

Japanese: 裏封 - うらふう

〘noun〙 When a document has a certifying statement or signature written on the back. In medieval lawsuits, the magistrate in charge would stamp the back of the plaintiff's (plaintiff's) complaint or the defendant's (argument's) statement to show that he had confirmed it. When a complaint statement was long and spanned several pages, a stamp was placed on the back of the statement. It also refers to a magistrate putting a written seal on the back of a settlement document in the case of a settlement to show that he acknowledged the terms of the settlement. *Muromachi family's inner documents (late 14th century - late 16th century) Part 1 "Sealed on the back of a document, dated December 10th, _1st year of Bunmei, with the purpose of the seal _and _a _second seal _{on the back} , _dated Bunmei 17024."

〘名〙文書の裏面に証明のことばや署名がなされること。中世の訴訟で、原告（訴人）の訴状や被告（論人）の陳状に担当奉行が裏判を記して確認したことを示すこと。訴陳状の文章が長く数紙にわたるときは、その継ぎ目に裏判をした。また、和解した場合の和与状の裏に、奉行人が和解の条件を認知したことを示すために書判などをすることもいう。※室町家御内書案（１４Ｃ後‐１６Ｃ後）上「証文裏封事文明十年十二月十日任_二証判之旨_一重為_二後証_一封_レ裏文明十七十廿四判在_レ之」
