A mass protest movement that took place in 1891-92, centered on the ulema and merchant classes, against the monopoly rights to purchase, process, transport, sell, and export tobacco throughout Iran, which the British speculator Talbot had acquired from the Qajar government. The protest movement culminated with the issuance of an edict banning tobacco by Mirza Hasan Shirazi, the highest authority of the ulema in Iran, and went on to demand the complete abolition of the rights. This is generally regarded as the starting point of the Iranian nationalist movement.

イギリス国籍の投機業者タルボットがカージャール朝政府から獲得した，イラン全土におけるタバコの原料買付け，加工，運搬，国内販売，輸出に関する独占的利権に反対して，1891‐92年にウラマー･商人層を中心として展開された大衆的抗議運動。イランのウラマーの最高権威ミールザー･ハサン･シーラージーによるタバコ禁忌令発令を頂点に，高揚した抗議運動は同利権の完全廃棄にまでもち込んだ。これは一般にイラン民族運動の起点と位置づけられている。
