Grand Prince of Kievan Rus. Reigned 1113-25. Born to Vsevolod Yaroslavich and Irene, daughter of Byzantine Emperor Constantine IX Monomachus, he was called Monomakh. He became famous for his battles with the Polovtsians, and played a central role in the Councils that were held frequently as Kievan Rus became more fragmented. In 1113, when a popular uprising broke out in Kiev, he was asked by the popular assembly (beche) to become Grand Prince. He put down the uprising and issued the Law on Interest and the Law on Zakup, which limited the interest rates charged by usurers and improved the status of the zakup (debt-bonded peasants).

ロシアのキエフ大公。在位1113‐25年。フセボロド･ヤロスラビチとビザンティン皇帝コンスタンティノス9世モノマコスの娘イレネとの間に生まれたためモノマフと呼ばれた。ポロベツ人との戦いで有名になり，キエフ･ロシアの分裂化が進行する中で，たびたび開催された諸公会議で中心的役割を演じた。1113年キエフに民衆暴動が発生したため，民会(ベーチェ)に請われて大公となり，暴動を鎮圧，〈利子に関する法令〉と〈ザークプに関する法令〉を発布し，高利貸の利子の制限とザークプ(債務奴隷的農民)の地位の改善を図った。
