A town in the eastern part of Bihar state in northeastern India. It lies on the eastern bank of the Mole River. It is a major centre for agricultural trade and has a weekly livestock market. It is the home of a college of the University of Bhagalpur and a reservoir for the Mole River Irrigation Scheme to the south. Population 38,207 (1991).
