A region in the center of Saudi Arabia. Approximately 4 million ^km2 . Major cities include the capital Riyadh and Buraidah. Almost the entire region is desert, forming a plateau at an altitude of 800-1600m. Oasis agriculture of dates, grains, etc. is practiced, and livestock farming is thriving. This is the birthplace of the House of Saud, founders of Saudi Arabia. In 1927, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was formed together with the Hijaz.
