This was the first educational magazine published by the Ministry of Education in the early Meiji period, and was the first such magazine in Japan. In April 1873, the title of the Ministry of Education Journal, which had been published in stages as a Ministry of Education report since August of the previous year, was changed to introduce advanced educational theories and educational conditions in Europe and the United States, in addition to reporting on the education system and general academic affairs. Until the 18th issue in the following year, 1874, it was printed using letterpress on Japanese paper, but from then on it was printed on both sides of Western paper, and gradually the number of translations from foreign educational newspapers and magazines increased. In April 1876, the title was changed to Educational Magazine. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
