Born May 27, 1911 in St. Louis, Missouri [Died] October 25, 1993. Los Angeles, California. American actor. Full name: Vincent Leonard Price. One of the leading actors in the American horror film world. His father was the owner of a confectionery company, and his grandfather the inventor of baking powder. He graduated from Yale University in 1933. He enrolled at the University of London to obtain a master's degree in fine arts, but soon became interested in acting and decided to pursue a career as an actor. He made his stage debut in London in 1934, and then moved to Broadway. He made his film debut in 1938. He got his big break with House of Wax (1953), one of the early 3D films, and established himself as the king of horror films. He contributed to the revival of the popularity of horror films with a string of hits, including The Fly (1958) and House on Haunted Hill (1958). In the 1960s, he appeared in a series of films directed by Roger Corman, based on short stories by Edgar Allan Poe. He terrified audiences with films such as The House of Usher (1960). He was also known as an art collector, and donated much of his collection to East Los Angeles Community College in 1951.
