Japanese: モンテ･ローザ[山]（英語表記）Monte Rosa

The main peak of the Pennine Alps, towering over the border between Switzerland and Italy. Monte Rosa means "Rose Mountain" in Italian, and was given this name because it shines red in the sunset. Several peaks rise up from the majestic snowy plains, with Dufour peak (4,634m) being the highest. Many glaciers are fed here, but the Gorner Glacier on the Swiss slope is the second largest after the Aletsch Glacier (area 62.9 km2, length 14.5 km). Zermatt in the Matter Valley on the Swiss side is the base for climbing and sightseeing in this massif.

スイスとイタリアの国境にそびえるペニン･アルプスAlpi Pennineの主峰。モンテ･ローザはイタリア語で〈バラの山〉を意味し，夕日に赤色に映えるためにこの名称となった。雄大な雪原にいくつかの峰がそびえたち，デュフール峰(4634m)が最高峰。多くの氷河がここで養われるが，スイス側斜面のゴルナー氷河は，アレッチュ氷河に次ぐ規模(面積62.9km2，延長14.5km)である。スイス側のマッター谷のツェルマットはこの山塊への登山ならびに観光の基地である。
