Monte Carlo (English spelling)

Japanese: モンテ･カルロ（英語表記）Monte‐Carlo

The northeastern region of the Principality of Monaco. It borders Menton, France, to the east. It is the leading tourist and health resort on the Cote d'Azur, with a public casino, luxurious hotels, and villas. The development of Monte Carlo is the history of the Principality over the past century. This plateau, once called Sperubbe, meaning cave, only had a few houses, but in the mid-19th century, Prince Charles III of Monaco authorized the construction of a gambling hall, and the foundations of today were laid. The casino, which opened in 1862, was not doing well at first, but F. Brun, who had successfully operated a casino in Homburg, Germany, took over the management and built a new casino through a company organization.

モナコ公国の東北地区。東はフランスのマントンと接する。公営賭博場カジノ，豪華なホテル，別荘などがありコート･ダジュールきっての観光･保養地である。モンテ･カルロの発展はここ1世紀の公国の歴史そのものでもある。かつて洞窟を意味するスペリュブと呼ばれたこの台地には若干の住宅がみられるにすぎなかったが，19世紀中葉モナコ公シャルル3世が賭博場の建設を認めたときに今日の基礎が置かれた。1862年に開設されたカジノの経営状態は当初は思わしくなかったが，その後ドイツのホンブルクでカジノ経営に成功したF.ブランが経営に当たり，会社組織によって新しいカジノを建設した。
