Evaporite - Evaporite

Japanese:
Evaporite - Evaporite
Rocks formed when water from an ocean or lake (especially a salt lake) evaporates and substances dissolved in the water precipitate. A type of chemical sedimentary rock. Includes rock salt, anhydrite, and potassium salts. Generally, the following depositional sequence is observed from bottom to top: 1. Thin conglomerate, red clay, dolomite, 2. Thick layer of gypsum, 3. Thick layer of rock salt, 4. Thin layer of potassium salt. This sequence is in good harmony with the precipitation sequence observed when seawater is evaporated in a laboratory: calcium carbonate (with some iron and aluminum hydroxide) → calcium sulfate → sodium chloride (with magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride). Evaporites were formed at various times around the world, but since a dry climate spread worldwide during the Permian period, those from that period are particularly famous as deposits of rock salt and potassium salts.
