Japanese schools - nihonjingakko (English name) full-time schools for Japanese
A school established for the purpose of educating children of compulsory school age who are Japanese nationals residing overseas for a certain period of time. Before World War II, "designated overseas schools" were established in overseas settlements, but today, Japanese schools that are dealt with in relation to the education of overseas children and children returning from overseas mainly refer to those that have been established since the 1960s, in conjunction with the internationalization of Japanese politics and economic activities. Basically, they are full-time overseas educational facilities that provide education in Japanese that is equivalent to school education in Japan. However, many students attend part-time supplementary schools, and there are also schools established by companies and private schools in the local area. In addition, a large number of children receive correspondence education subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The aim is to become an "open Japanese school" by promoting exchanges with international schools and local schools, and by establishing international classes.
