A feudal lord of the early modern period. Born in Owari Province. Shigetoshi served Tokugawa Hidetada, and in 1609 (Keicho 14) was granted a fief of 3,000 koku. He was implicated in the removal of Okubo Tadachika's title and was temporarily stripped of his fief, but in 1627 (Kan'ei 4), he was pardoned and became the feudal lord of Oyumi in Shimousa with a fief of 10,000 koku. In 1632, Shigetoshi committed suicide to marry Hidetada. After that, the Morikawa clan continued to hold Oyumi until the end of the Edo period. The head of the family was appointed to the rank of Dewa no Kami (Lower Fifth Rank) and Naizen no Masayoshi, among other positions. He often produced people who were appointed to important positions such as Soshaban and Wakadoshiyori. After the Meiji Restoration, he was made a viscount.
